Summary
Critical Care Services lead by Clinical Lead, Simon Webster. The Critical Care service comprises of 18 other Consultants: Our Critical Care services are delivered across two unit, one on the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital site and one on the Cheltenham General site. The two units admit approximately 1,500 patients a year. We support elective surgical services including Upper GI resection work, head and neck cancer services, three counties Gynae-Oncology services, a busy vascular unit. We have a busy medical admissions workload supporting all specialties including interventional cardiology, haematology, oncology, respiratory and renal medicine. We have the greatest number of paediatric admissions outside of PICU in the South West with between 40 and 50 admissions per year. We pride ourselves on our MDT approach to patient care and the flat hierarchy within our units. We have the support of an excellent outreach team across both our sites and we work closely together to ensure the best patient care. Clinical Responsibilities/Key Responsibilities a. Provide care to Critical Care patients b. Reviewing Critical Care referrals from throughout the hospital c. Support the provision of an on-call rota in a 1:8 frequency d. Support the MDT on Critical Care e. Participate in shared decision making for ongoing management of Critical Care patient 2. Professional Development, Education and Training a. We would hope that you will support the departmental educational program b. Attendance at teaching when available on duty is expected. This includes i. Radiology teaching- every Tuesday ii. Education session- every Friday iii. Departmental M & M alternate months 3. Management and Leadership a. You will be expected to show strong and clear leadership at all times. This will be especially relevant and important when forming part of the out of hours Critical Care team to both the unit and Cardiac arrest teams. 4. Research and Development a. You will support recruitment into ongoing research projects b. You are welcome to support the department in its extensive research portfolio including undertaking the role as an Associate PI 5. Communications and Working Relationships a. High quality, clear and comprehensive communication is expected at all times. b. You will be expected to regularly communicate with patients and involved them where possible in shared decision making about their ongoing medical management c. You will be expected to communication with relatives and next of kin in a professional and kind manner at all times but especially around sensitive and upsetting situations d. You will be expected to communicated effectively with all members of the MDT and other specialties. 6. Clinical Governance a. The department of Critical Care has robust Clinical governance processes with a monthly CG meeting and two monthly mortality and morbidity review.
