You’re invited to apply for the Junior Cloud Software/Infrastructure Engineer role at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, as part of the EPSRC-funded Team Development Hub Project. In this role, you’ll receive training and support through an emerging curriculum and competency framework that will help you develop new skills to support the development, maintenance, and optimisation of a real-world secure data environment (SDE).
This role is one of three Research Technical Professional (RTP) positions supported by the Team Development Hub project across the partner institutions: the University of Liverpool, the University of Manchester, and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
You’ll bring enthusiasm and a proactive mindset to a project focused on delivering next-generation training materials. These materials aim to equip future RTPs—like yourself—with a broad range of skills in emerging technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, and Azure Cloud, which form the foundation of modern SDE infrastructure.
With your commitment to excellent customer service and your passion for science and engineering, you’ll work in an agile technical environment alongside infrastructure engineers, software developers, data analysts, and academic researchers. Together, you’ll provision new SDE infrastructure and help develop an innovative training curriculum to benefit the wider RTP community.
Please ensure you check your visa eligibility before applying for this role. More information can be found here, on the government website.
As a Junior Cloud Software/Infrastructure Engineer, you will assist in deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters that support the organisation’s analytics platform. Working closely with senior engineers, you will help implement and integrate cloud solutions—primarily within Azure and AWS environments.
Your responsibilities will include monitoring and maintaining containerized applications to ensure performance and availability, supporting automation efforts through CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshooting technical issues related to Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
You'll also contribute to ensuring the security and compliance of cloud environments by following best practices and internal policies. Clear documentation of processes and configurations will be an essential part of your work.
Additionally, you will participate in team meetings, contribute to project planning, engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide technical support, and stay informed on emerging technologies and best practices in Kubernetes and cloud computing.
Working in our team offers an exciting and supportive environment where collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning are at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary group that values open communication, shared problem-solving, and a genuine passion for improving healthcare through research and technology. We foster a culture where everyone’s ideas are welcomed, and your contributions will have a real impact on the development of secure, cutting-edge digital infrastructure to support NHS research. As part of our team, you'll have opportunities to grow professionally, work on meaningful projects, and help shape the future of data-driven healthcare.
