Summary

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

Digital, Data & Technology

Home Office Digital, Data and Technology designs, builds and develops services for the rest of the department and for government. Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property.

The Project Support Officer plays an important role within the Home Office’s Digital, Data and Technology Directorate (DDaT) and is positioned within the Police & Public Protection Technology (PPPT) Portfolio.

PPPT is responsible for several high-profile portfolios delivering significant capability on a national scale. The portfolio is a mixed team of highly motivated and passionate civil servants, consultants and contractors working together to drive digital ambitions, design appropriate solutions and deliver digital services quickly and effectively.

The Project Support Officer role covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project’s objectives. We are looking for individuals with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, not afraid to challenge where necessary but able to collaborate effectively to deliver. You will need to be comfortable leading pieces of work, and ensuring they are delivered to the highest quality.

You will play a critical role in providing effective support to projects using project management methodologies and processes including risk and issue management, project reporting, dependency management, project planning and change control. You will be an effective communicator who can tailor messaging according to your audience. You will also be logical in your thinking, able to problem-solve and manage priorities within tight deadlines.

To succeed in this fast-paced role, you will be proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to work collaboratively and confidently with stakeholders.

You will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of effective project support skills and enhance your experience in a technology focussed area.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. Some roles may also be suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum of 3 days per week due to business requirements.

We encourage applications from candidates who wish to work part-time; however, part-time opportunities cannot be guaranteed and are subject to the requirements of the role and business. Candidates wishing to work part-time should notify the vacancy holder as soon as a provisional offer of employment is made, to explore whether this can be accommodated at your selected location.

Your main day to day responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Supporting the Project Manager with day-to-day activities of the project.
  • Identifying, monitoring and proactively managing project risks and issues.
  • Assisting the Project Manager in maintaining the project plan and reporting on progress.
  • Drafting engagement products, including briefing, slides and lines to take in response to external queries.
  • Providing support in key meetings and boards.

The above responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake any of the above tasks or additional tasks not listed above, within the remit of their grade, to support the team.

Please ensure you read the Project Delivery Capability Framework here in full prior to applying.
