Summary

Equans is recruiting for an Electrician to be based on site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

This is a permanent full-time role working 42 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

Please note this is a shift role - working 4 on 4 off between the hours of 7am -7pm

You will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and delivering services in line with Specialised Healthcare Technical Memoranda (SHTMs), Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPMs) schedules, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

You may also provide supervision to Craft or Operative Maintenance Assistants and could act as a Shift Manager, overseeing a small team and supporting broader engineering operations.

What will you deliver?

  • Demonstrate electrical competency to Level 3 in theory and practice, or hold an advanced, recognised electrical apprenticeship.
  • Work towards or hold relevant Competent Person (CP) qualifications in high-risk disciplines.
  • Operate in line with all Company Policies, ARTS values, and Health & Safety at Work (HASAW) regulations.
  • Interpret and work from Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring compliance and safe working practices.
  • Carry out installations, fault finding, and repairs in industrial and commercial electrical systems.
  • Execute PPM and Reactive Planned Maintenance (RPM) tasks via Maximo or other designated systems. Sign off work and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Take full ownership of assigned tasks, ensure accurate documentation, and close off completed work effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with team members, stakeholders, and service users.
  • Demonstrate initiative in solving non-routine problems and propose practical solutions.
  • Support and guide colleagues through knowledge sharing and training.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and pressures, maintaining professionalism and high-quality output.
  • Apply lateral thinking and collaborative problem-solving to drive service improvements.
  • Plan, prioritise, and deliver tasks or small-scale projects within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Contribute positively to team goals and support a culture of continuous improvement.

Who are we looking for?

  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as an Electrician or similar role in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SHTM (Scottish Healthcare Technical Memorandum), PPMs (Planned Preventative Maintenance), and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
  • Excellent understanding of Engineering Building Services installation and maintenance techniques.
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • The role requires the successful post holder to obtain a PVG Disclosure prior to starting.
