Primary Teacher – fixed term until 27/02/2026
Kaimes School
Salary £33,594 - £50,589
Hours: 35 per week
Kaimes is a special school based in the south-east of Edinburgh, for pupils with Autism and other associated complex needs. We cater for a wide range of young people from P7 to S6 who are achieving from Early to 4th Level and beyond.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate teacher to join our team on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is an opportunity to work in a small group setting and deliver individualised learning experiences with favourable support ratios and highly skilled support staff.
At Kaimes, we use a primary “base-class” structure and teacher’s role will involve teaching maths, literacy and health & wellbeing as well as wider aspects of the curriculum. Excellent and creative teaching skills to enable our pupils to access learning, and the ability to provide high quality, holistic pastoral care are essential attributes.
While most of your contact time will be with your base class, the role will also involve teaching other groups, for example teaching cooking skills and practical life skills, again in small group settings and the focus of this may be flexible depending on your skills and experience.
Experiencing of working with young people with a variety of ASN needs or the ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of autism is essential. A working knowledge of the SCERTS framework, and a commitment to obtaining an up-to-date food hygiene certificate, would be beneficial.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
Happy to talk flexible working.
