FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the utilities industry for an experienced Principal Engineer – Mechanical to strengthen their team.
Location: Exeter, hybrid working available

Principal Engineer – Mechanical responsibilities:
• You will report directly to the Regional Engineering Lead or Regional Discipline Lead.
• Your primary responsibility is to deliver high-quality Engineering Design services that enable the company to reduce risks and optimise profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.
• Coordinate design efforts and produce comprehensive design documents and drawings, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, contractual specifications, and applicable standards.
• Develop design layouts that are cost-effective, fully compliant with specifications, and practical for construction and commissioning. The term "cost" encompasses all expenses related to the design and its implementation, including design time, material, construction, and any cross-disciplinary impacts. The design solution must account for the total lifecycle cost, ensuring optimal efficiency and value.
• Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department
• Develop, review, and refine procedures to ensure departmental efficiency.
• Organize and manage contract files and records.
• Support staff development, ensure workplace safety, and maintain a personal growth plan.
• Minimise waste, prioritise environmental considerations, and ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements in designs.
Principal Engineer – Mechanical requirements:
• Proven expertise in designing complex process systems.
• In-depth knowledge of water treatment principles.
• Experienced in leading staff in designing discipline-specific aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
• Membership of a professional institution / chartered.
• Relevant discipline Engineering degree or equivalent experience and training.
• Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts
• Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering and project management
• Driving license
