Summary
We are seeking a Quality Control Analyst to join our client’s chemical manufacturing business in Mildenhall, Suffolk. This is a permanent, full-time position working 12.25 hour shifts in a rotating pattern of 4 days (Monday to Thursday 07:15am – 19:30pm) followed by 3 nights (Monday to Wednesday 19:15pm – 07:30am).
There is a salary band of £30,000 - £40,000 per annum offered with this post, which is inclusive of shift allowance and is dependent on relevant skills, experience and qualifications.
The Company
Our client has been operating for over 50 years and are an independent business who manufacture batch chemicals for blue chip companies globally. Their finished products are fine chemicals and polymers, used for making anything from sealants, adhesives, dyes, paint, oil additives and many other products.

The Job
The purpose of this position is to work alongside the production department, and carry out analytical techniques (including: HPLC, GC, GPC, FTIR, UV, Flash point, viscometer and titration) on manufactured products ensure that the Quality Control requirements of the Company’s operations are met efficiently and to a high standard.
You’ll be working as part of a small team, and during night shift will be working independently in the lab. Your closest working relationships will be with the Laboratory Manager and the production department as a big part of the role is providing in-process results to them in real time.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Ensure that the analytical requirements of the company are met promptly and effectively at all times.
• Analysis of raw materials, in-process and finished product samples using a wide range of analytical techniques.
• To co-ordinate with other departments to ensure all necessary analysis has been carried out by the required time, and any necessary documentation can be produced in a timely manner as required.
• Maintain the QC Lab information system to provide batch traceability, document control, certificates of analysis.
• Ensure all sample requests are dealt with promptly.
• Ensure that sample storage in the warehouse is kept up to date with respect to sample retention and storage, and that the QC area of warehouse is organised and kept tidy.
• Liaise with the production department concerning adjustments to batches following analysis, e.g. dilution, blending etc.
• Keep records of analysis and other information required under the ISO 9001 system.
• Keep the laboratory clean, tidy and well presented at all times.
• Carry out the calibration of all laboratory equipment according to the agreed schedule.
• Carry out maintenance of laboratory equipment where applicable.
• Order raw materials and equipment needed by the laboratory.
• Assist where necessary, in the development of new methods of analysis.
• Work at all times within the requirements of the Company's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Policy
• Ensure that quality standards which apply to the job are maintained at all times.
• Undertake other duties within the department as may be required from time to time.
Requirements
• A proven scientific background (essential)
• Experience working in an industrial laboratory (essential)
• Preferably a degree or HNC in Chemistry, though relevant experience gained from several years of industry relevant analytical experience may also be considered
• Experience of using some of the following techniques: HPLC, GC, GPC, FTIR, UV, Flash point, viscometer and titration
• Ability and willingness to work the set shift pattern as detailed above
• Clear, open, friendly, professional and confident communication style
• The ability to work as part of a team but also independently
• The ability to effectively prioritize, and work with a sense of urgency without compromising quality of work
