We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic legal professional to lead our Contracts & Commercial Team. This is a pivotal role within our Legal Services department, offering the opportunity to shape the delivery of high-quality legal advice across a wide range of commercial and governance matters.

About the Role

Contracts & Commercial Team Leader

As Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and manage a busy team of legal professionals, ensuring efficient and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Provide expert legal advice on complex commercial, procurement, and governance issues to both internal and external clients.
  • Oversee a diverse caseload, including high-value contracts, company law matters, and strategic projects involving council-owned companies.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team, fostering a collaborative and supportive working culture.

About You

We're looking for a confident legal leader who can hit the ground running. You should bring:

  • Ability to demonstrate your experience in leading and developing legal teams, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Several years PQE as a solicitor or ’ call to the Bar.
  • Extensive experience in contract and commercial law, ideally within or alongside the public sector.
  • A strong understanding of procurement law and the Procurement Act 2023, company law, and the legal framework governing local authorities.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal issues independently and make sound, strategic decisions.
