Grade 6: Salary in the range of £34,982-£38,674 pro rata per annum
This is a part time (60% FTE), fixed term position for 3 years.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to join of a small team providing an inclusive histology support service for the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. They will be expected to undertake the day-to-day collection, preparation and cutting of tissue samples, histological scoring/analysis and presentation of data. Additionally, they will liaise with individual research groups regarding work requests, and they will be expected to help train other members of the team in histological techniques.

In this position you will undertake development and standardisation of histological and immunohistochemical techniques and perform histological scoring of disease sections and the presentation of results. You will document and analyse experimental data, as well as develop protocols and implement improvements to current working methods. In this role you will provide relevant advice and training for those using the laboratory and facilitate the highest possible standards of research within the laboratory.

You must hold a BSc/MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent, together with a specialist advanced qualification and/or experience of immunohistochemical techniques. You will have experience in tissue processing and histological screening, and experience with a wide range of murine/human tissues and organs. You will demonstrate an ability to organise work with minimum supervision and keep meticulous records in combination with the ability to prioritise work in response to deadlines. Experience working under laboratory quality management system and a willingness to work flexible hours are desirable.
