Crynodeb
We’re looking for a compassionate, organised and experienced Room-Based SENCO to join our team. You’ll take the lead on supporting children with special educational needs, ensuring they are fully included in all aspects of nursery life. You’ll also work closely with practitioners, parents, and external professionals to create tailored support plans that help each child reach their full potential. Take the lead on identifying and supporting children with additional needs.
Carry out regular observations and assessments to monitor development and highlight any concerns early.
Work closely with key staff to ensure children’s needs are identified and addressed through Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Coordinate referrals to outside agencies such as Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, or local SEND/IIT teams.
Liaise with parents and carers, keeping them informed and involved in their child’s development and support strategies.
Attend and contribute to review meetings for children with identified SEND.
Support colleagues in adapting planning and practice to be inclusive and developmentally appropriate for all children.
Maintain clear and accurate SEN records and documentation, following safeguarding and data protection guidelines.
Ensure the setting’s SEND policy is followed and contribute to its regular review.
Promote an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for children of all abilities.
Stay up to date with current SEND legislation, guidance, and local authority procedures.
Essential:
Level 3 Early Years qualification (or higher)
A sound understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and how it applies to early years settings
Experience working with children with additional needs
Confident in writing and reviewing IEPs and liaising with external professionals
Strong communication and organisational skills
A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
