An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join our Major Trauma Centre at St George’s Hospital. This role provides an opportunity to work with patients with serious and life changing injuries, their families and staff members working within the Major Trauma service.
The post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team where psychology is valued and well established. Alongside active clinical role, the post holder will have opportunities to shape and develop psychological care pathways within the Major Trauma Centre as part of the Integrated Psychological Model of Care pilot.
** Newly qualified candidates are welcome to apply**
The existing Clinical Psychology Service within the Major Trauma Centre at St. George’s Hospital was established in May 2012 and it forms an important part of the Major Trauma service, supporting adult-aged patients across the entire service and hospital site. Alongside staff teaching/training and consultation, clinical work is conducted with individual patients and their families. This work includes:
• Helping people to make sense of their current thoughts, feelings and reactions in the context of their previous experience, the accident/assault, serious injury, medication and
the hospital environment.
• Providing psychoeducation on psychological reactions post trauma, management of
distress and coping with pain and invasive medical procedures
• Assisting with problem-solving of current difficulties
• Exploring barriers to engagement in rehabilitation
• Supporting use of coping resources and resiliencies
• Liaising with the wider multi-disciplinary team around preparation for discharge.
The majority of the face-to-face clinical work takes place on the trauma wards, in ICU or during joint rehabilitation sessions. This provides an opportunity to work creatively to deliver effective clinical psychology interventions.
St George's Hospital is a thriving Foundation Trust at the heart of an integrated healthcare system. One that delivers improved patient care at a community, hospital and specialist setting, supported by a unique and nationally recognised programme of research, education and employee engagement. We expect all our staff to share the values that are important to the Trust, being Excellent, Kind, Responsible & Respectful, and behave in a way that reflects these.
