An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, influential pharmacist with advanced, expert clinical knowledge and skills to lead the hepatology pharmacy team at St George’s Hospital. The Hepatology team have recently achieved Improving Quality in Liver Service (IQILS) level 2. The team are dedicated to improving liver health across Southwest London both in secondary and primary and community services. The pharmacy team have received a special commendation for their contribution to the service. SGH provides tertiary Hepatology services to SW London and Surrey providing level 2 and 3 care. They are the regional hub for PBC second line treatment with a dedicated pharmacist led clinic for assessment, treatment and monitoring.
The post offers a pivotal role to act as the principal pharmacist, working closely with multidisciplinary and senior management teams to ensure the cost effective and safe running of the service. The post holder will be an experienced pharmacist with extensive hepatology, leadership and management experience. You will manage, supervise and support pharmacy and hepatology staff and lead on the provision and development of the clinical pharmacy services. · To work as an advanced expert pharmacist within hepatology including independent prescribing, outpatient clinics, MDT meetings and ward rounds
· To lead on the provision and development of the clinical pharmacy services across the region including clinical risk and governance, finance, operations and research.
· To act as a role model providing education, training, and mentoring to staff within pharmacy and the specialty.
· To manage and develop pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and students.
· To attend and participate in care group, divisional and other trust meetings, working collaboratively with key stakeholders internal and external to the Trust to develop the service.
· To progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.
· To lead on and promote research and audit within the speciality.
· To participate in the senior management team within pharmacy.
The successful applicant will be able to manage multiple priorities and deliver against deadlines. You will have excellent communication skills and be an enthusiastic educator. You should possess a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and have the relevant hospital pharmacy experience. Experience of working and influencing in a multi-disciplinary team and an independent prescribing qualification are essential.
