Summary

RPS, a TetraTech company, is looking for an Associate Director/Technical Director – Town Planning to support the growth of its National Development and Infrastructure Planning team in Leeds. This is a key role within the team who work collaboratively with our Environment Division on major projects including NSIPs and across a wide range of sectors focussed on energy and transport infrastructure and strategic housing and commercial projects. Working alongside a range of multi-disciplinary services within a team of planning experts, you’ll be delivering on a broad range of major planning and DCO applications including renewables, alternative energy, airports, ports, residential, mixed-use developments, data centres, airports, ports, industrial, data centres, , major infrastructure projects, retail and logistics.

About the Team

We are proud to be the Planning and EIA leads for some of the most important energy and infrastructure projects across England, Scotland and Wales. Our projects include Round 4 Offshore Wind Farms, international interconnector projects, solar farms and innovative battery storage and alternative energy projects across the UK. With over 20 current DCO projects, the NDIP team is actively working on projects such as the Mona Offshore Wind Project, Gatwick Expansion, Ossian Offshore Wind and transmission project, Morven Offshore Wind Project, Morgan and Morecambe Transmission Assets, XLinks, Botley West Solar Farm, Great North Road Solar Farm, Expansion of Redcar Bulk Terminal, and a range of projects for clients such as SSE, BP, BSR, Acorn Energy, Elgin, Lightsource bp. RWE, Marubeni, CIP, and Alcemi.

What you will doing

As Technical Director in the team, you will be working on some of our biggest infrastructure and renewables projects across the UK and in a collaborative manner with professional Planning and Environmental consultants across the UK business. This is a key position where you will have the opportunity to build multi-disciplinary teams, mentor and endeavour to develop their professional experience. You’ll be contributing towards the continued success of the business and team through the effective delivery of a wide variety of projects. The development of customer relationships and securing new projects forms part of the role.

You’ll generate new and repeat business, as well as provide professional consultancy advice and services to our customers and colleagues. The team is also accountable for coordinating and assisting our submissions for frameworks, large tenders involving other teams within the Division and aiding other offices where necessary.

Who we are looking for

With experience within this sector, you’ll already be familiar with what we’re looking for:

Qualified MRTPI or in another relevant discipline
A highly experienced and knowledgeable practitioner who has experience in large energy and infrastructure projects, including those requiring Environmental Impact Assessment, and those relating to Developments of National Significance and Development Control Orders
Strong directorship qualities
Experience of appearing as an expert witness in Examinations in Public as well as Public Inquiries
Strong people management experience
A strategic thinker with strong negotiating techniques and a track record of taking ownership of and achieving outcomes for customers, business, teams, and self
Have an established market reputation with a demonstrable record of winning sustainable and commercially viable projects
Good financial and project management know-how
Great influencing and communication techniques that enable you to build, maintain and consolidate strong working relationships with colleagues, customers and external bodies.
