This role requires a Registered General Nurse to work as part of a team delivering physical healthcare within inpatient mental health wards and clinics. The role will include both direct care delivery and also the training development and support of the existing nursing workforce in physical healthcare.

To provide high quality physical healthcare to mental health patients, working as part of multidisciplinary teams in Adult Mental Health Inpatient Services


To take a lead on nursing related physical healthcare delivery and the support and development of skills and competency in the nursing workforce.

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of healthcare for patients.

Safe administration of medication in accordance with National, Trust and Local policies

Provide a triage service and clinical interventions, recognising environmental limitations and the need for appropriate referral, assessment and transfer of patients who require care within wider NHS provision.

Respond to healthcare emergencies within the hospital in accordance with the Trust's and Local policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate healthcare records

Deliver evidence based care

Seek specialist advice from other Healthcare professionals both internal and external.

Handles sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Organise and be responsible for the allocation of workload to deliver effective and efficient high quality care.

To provide basic leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high quality care.

Promote independent self-management of patients healthcare needs

Respect Patients individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity within the constraints of the acute mental health ward environment.

Actively participate in the development of the physical healthcare agenda within the hospital setting.

Ensures the effective and efficient use of resources within their own sphere of responsibility.

Prioritises own workload based on clinical priority

Responsible for identifying own learning needs and participate in training to develop and maintain own knowledge, personal qualities and skills.

To actively participate in all aspects of clinical and managerial supervision

Take responsibility for your own and others' health and safety in the working environment.

To work within the provision of and keep up to date with the Trust and Local policies and procedures

To undertake any other duties that would be a reasonable expectation of the role

Able to recognise and maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times and report inappropriate behaviour/boundary concerns

Maintain own registration requirements in accordance professional body regulation

Provide mentorship and preceptorship to junior staff and learners

Provide one to one training or group training sessions to staff.

Participation in the physical healthcare forum in adult mental health and team meetings as required.



Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
