2 x Level 2 SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant'sBarley Croft Primary requires 2 x Level 2 SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant's which would be a job share/part time working to support a child with additional needs in our early years setting initially. The funding for this contract is attached to the child and the long term plan is for the child to remain at the school. Working hours for the two part time roles are as follows - 8:30am-12:40pm - Mon, Tue, Wed & Friday (16.6 hours a week). Term time only12:30pm-3:30pm - Mon, Tue, Wed & Friday (12 hours a week). Term time only Possibility of additional hours available on a casual basis. You'll join our warm and friendly staff, led by our blue sky thinking, no limits leadership team.We are seeking to appoint a L2 Teaching Assistants with SEN skillset who can: Provide learning support, physical support and care to a specific child currently due to join the Foundation stage with co-occurring SEND needs.
Actively participate in activities and to model expected learning behaviours.
Assist pupil – through differentiating and modifying the learning tasks – to experience real success in the schemes of work and programmes put in place by teachers.
Support pupil with their individual learning and development needs.
Help support pupil independence in learning and self-care where possible
Support pupil in eating, drinking and personal care routines.
Assist in the recording of pupils’ progress by contributing to classroom records.
Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists to implement specific personalised plans or activities.
Assists with administrative tasks, e.g. maintaining pupil records, creating displays of work, etc.
Works with parent/carers to support pupils’ learning and behavioural needs.
Attends team and staff meetings/ training days where appropriate.
Safeguarding:
Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies. Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school.Skills:
Essential:
Significant experience supporting children with a range of special educational needs including physical and medical needs.
Familiar with a range of communication support strategies including now/next timetables and other visual systems.
Be attune to communication extending beyond verbal language.
Ability to deal calmly with different situations as they arise.
Be physically and emotionally resilient in order to work with who need physical care as well as learning support.
Able to develop good relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
Desirable:
Knowledge and experience using Makaton, PECs and colourful semantics.
Familiarity of AAC devices and to use them to develop language and communication. Knowledge or familiarity of the Early Years curriculum.
Experience managing medical needs including epilepsy.
