We are recruiting for a SEO Senior Policy Advisor to join the Commissioner’s Policy Team. The post-holder will be expected to cover a broad policy portfolio, and be flexible to the needs and priorities of the Commissioner, as well as responding to reactive issues as they come up. The team has recently published the Commissioner’s vision for the Criminal Justice System in her Shifting the Scales report, and will shortly be publishing reports on Children and Young People, Domestic Homicides & Suicides, and Family court.
Following publication of these reports, it is anticipated that there may be flexibility in the future focus of the policy team as the Commissioner’s work and strategic priorities progress. Equally, the Commissioner’s team is small and team members are expected to offer support and work collaboratively across different workstreams as needed. Applicants should therefore be able and willing to potentially work across a range of policy issues relating to domestic abuse.
For this role we are looking for a self-starter who can think strategically while maintaining a strong grip on detail, and who can understand the complexities of domestic abuse in the context of both central and local Government. The role will be demanding and varied and would suit someone with strong policy, communications and stakeholder management skills.
We are committed to creating a welcoming, diverse and inclusive workplace, and particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates, LGBT+ candidates and people with disabilities.
We also offer options for flexible working.
Senior Policy Advisor
The post holder will be joining a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and we are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent policy, communication and interpersonal skills. The post holder will form part of a small policy team to support the work of the Commissioner and drive improvements in the response to domestic abuse at both a local and national level. This will include:
• Providing high-quality advice on a range of issues to the Commissioner;
• Developing detailed expertise on their policy portfolio, leading on development of these issues for the Office overall;
• Considering and responding to changes and emerging issues in the national and local policy landscape;
• Exercising excellent judgement and political awareness when engaging with stakeholders, including local and national Government, operational partners and parliamentarians;
• Building effective relationships with key stakeholders across Government, with statutory agencies, and with the third sector;
• Working closely with analysts and the Practice & Partnerships team to ensure that policy development is grounded in operational practice and robust evidence;
• Influencing policy development both in and outside Government, leveraging support for the Commissioner’s strategic objectives through third sector stakeholders, Government Departments and Parliamentarians;
• Representing the Commissioner’s views at key meetings with statutory partners, sector stakeholders and across Government;
• Deputising for the Head of Policy as required.
The post holder will be working as part of a small and busy team and will be expected to work flexibly across the Commissioner’s Office as and when required.
This position is full time due to the job requirements of the role.
