An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join the North Nottinghamshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in the role of an Engagement Officer.

This post is full time 37.5 hours per week and will be based at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, but the post holder will need to travel to external venues. This post will have line management responsibility for designated staff within the admin team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the monthly electronic patient data transfer via GP2DRS from GP practices to the screening programme. They will work closely with GP practices to maintain the accuracy of the programme’s database and to update GP practices about their DNR rate & patient uptake to screening.

The post holder will need to demonstrate a high level of communication skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands of a busy environment. They will be required to undertake a range of communication tasks to support the Diabetic Eye Screening team; this will include working with patients, GP practices, other healthcare professionals and community groups with a specific aim to reduce health inequalities and to improve patient access to diabetic eye screening, in order to reduce sight threatening eye disease.

• To line manage the administration staff.
• Manage the Screening Programme’s single collated list of patients eligible for diabetic eye screening using the monthly electronic patient data transfer via GP2DRS from GP practices to the screening programme. Working closely with GP practices to maintain the accuracy of the programme’s database using the programme’s specialised software and SystmOne used by the GP Practices.
• To continually work towards reducing the number of persistent non-responding patients (DNRs) which is one of the Screening Programme’s KPI targets.
• The job role will incorporate identifying vulnerable patients and health inequalities.
• Analyse data using reports from the programme’s specialised screening software including the Health Equity Reports, in order to establish actions for addressing inequalities and cohorts of patients with low uptake to screening.
• To put together and present reports to multidisciplinary teams including commissioners, evidencing the engagement and inequalities work undertaken, providing outcomes, analytical data & plans for future projects.
• Be responsible for the undertaking the programme’s patient satisfaction surveys.
• To promote the importance of diabetic eye screening by attending and presenting at external events.
• Be responsible for keeping the programme’s website up to date and advertising on social media.
