Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work as the Business Development Manager supporting the Head of Strategic Development in responding to bids and tenders from a variety of commissioners.
We are looking for an experienced manager with a proven track record in the delivery of large-scale bid management, transformation and business development. This management role will require both traditional programme management skills coupled with planning and bid writing. Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to matrix work across the organisational structure.
The post holder will ensure that bids and associated programmes are run to a high standard, delivered on time, within budget. Furthermore, the post holder will work with colleagues to provide assurance, through accurate reporting.
The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in the preparation of high quality business cases, tenders and presentations, strong programme/project management experience in the healthcare sector, good communication, leadership and management skills and have some knowledge of national NHS policy.

• Horizon scanning for business opportunities, regularly monitoring tender portals/sites and commissioning organisations’ websites.
• Liaising with key stakeholders to assess business opportunities, supporting services and directors to understand and process highly complex market information to support business decisions
• Research developments in Berkshire Healthcare’s key competitors, identifying threats and opportunities and maintaining up to date market and competitor analyses.
• To undertake highly complex benchmarking analyses, working with colleagues in performance and finance departments, to identify service risks and opportunities and support the preparation of bids and investment cases.
• Supporting the Head of Strategic Development to appraise each tender/ investment case opportunity, ensuring compliance with Trust decision making processes, following agreed governance systems and prioritisation tools to deploy resources effectively and in line with Trust strategic objectives .

Main duties continued..
• Ensuring tenders/cases are on track to meet deadlines, employing tight project management techniques and following approved systems and governance. This will include production of project documentation such as project plans, risk and issue logs, trackers and project updates. The Business Development Manager is responsible for maintaining effective file structures, and enabling access to individuals as appropriate.
• Leading on bid/case preparation, writing and editing, supporting operational and support staff across the Trust to create winning service and financial models, advising on winning strategies. This will require strong interpersonal and influencing skills to negotiate the most effective and efficient options. Communicate highly complex and sensitive information appropriately, ensuring material is produced by multiple contributors from across the Trust on time, meeting the bid/case requirements. The Business Development Manager will ensure all documents follow the approved process for review, editing and approval prior to submission
The “must haves” for this role:
• Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience.
• Additional extensive post graduate experience achieved through further study or practical experience in the areas of bid management and project management
• Has current and broad knowledge of the whole NHS context
• Has specific in-depth knowledge of the national agenda and the impact on NHS providers
• Can demonstrate evidence of writing compelling narrative, succinctly and accessibly presented
• Experience of a leadership role in coordinating, delivering and winning bids and grants
• Demonstrable experience of establishing, organising and delivering each stage of winning bids for competitive contract tenders in the public sector
• Experience of investment case production
• Experience of a leadership role in complex project management
• Experience of highly complex market analysis
• Experience of researching and analysing highly complex data, synthesising into succinct reports
• Experience of creating complex project plans and recording and maintaining risks and issues logs, and project progress reports
