The PCO is responsible for delivering their function in accordance with the role’s Terms of Reference.
The PCO is responsible for proactive and reactive pest control services and advice to any RN/RFA ships and UKCF in HMNB Clyde, RNAD Coulport & the Rhu Offsite Centre. This will require driving the pest control van and when required production of pest control written reports.
The PCO is responsible in an advisory capacity for pest control solutions and in an assurance role at HMS Calopi, HMS Caladonia, RM Condor & HMS Gannet. This will require driving the pest control van and when required production of pest control written reports.
The PCO will provide pest control services and support to buildings and infrastructure within their geographical areas of responsibility for UKCF & RN ships and submarines (and other Navies as directed by NEHO) with emphasis on eradication of stored product pests in food stores which could give rise to public health issues.
The PCO will be responsible for the removal of pests ranging from stored product pests through to vermin using industry approved methods. Control measures for birds, cats, dogs and other animals will also be required – this includes trapping techniques, bait application and use of weapons. It will also include the application of techniques related the physical humane dispatch and destruction of animals.
The PCO will need to use the IT system to monitor and manage pest control requests and communications with all key stakeholders including customers, chains of command and other relevant parties as well as the PCO mobile phone. The PCO will work closely with the NEHO to manage the pest control workload. This will require proactive and reactive flexibility.
The PCO will manage their pest control consumables and stores and will liaise with the NEHO for reordering and stock accounting & assurance. IT and use of Microsoft O-365 is essential to ensure accounting and assurance, communication and the creation of the PCO annual report for the NEHO.
The PCO will support the local chains of command within their geographical areas of responsibility for UKCF & RN ships and submarines as the subject matter expert with pest queries, pest proofing and pest treatment options for buildings, infrastructure and ships to ensure Operational and legal requirements are understood, achieved and met.
The PCO will conduct pest control assurance visits within their geographical areas of responsibility to assist the base locations to identify pest related issues, to reduce pest related risks, to inform future maintenance needs. PCO will produce assurance reports following established template to the NEHO.
The PCO will liaise with military and civilian agencies to obtain information to meet legal requirements of any wildlife licence to which they undertake their duties. This will include assisting with the application of the annual bird control licence from the Scottish Government
The PCO will need to be trained to the UK/National recognised pest control standards and maintain this standard with annual continuous professional development.
To operate safely, the role requires Health and safety training before working at height, using ladders, weapon systems and lone working. This will involve risk assessing and escalating concerns.
