Wakefield Council is delivering on an ambitious Estate Strategy—and to support this, we’re looking for proactive Surveyor– Leases & Transactions to manage a programme of lease events and provide expert leasehold advice across our 1,700 -strong property portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking property team and contribute to projects that directly impact local communities and the council’s long-term commercial strategy.



About the role



In this role, you’ll manage lease negotiations, renewals, rent reviews, and landlord & tenant matters, ensuring that lease terms align with market conditions, regulatory compliance, and Council priorities. You’ll offer expert advice on lease interpretation, variations, assignments, and licences, while also supporting inspections, enforcement, and dispute resolution. You’ll work closely with legal and finance teams, and liaise directly with tenants, agents, and stakeholders. It’s a varied, commercially focused position where attention to detail and a clear understanding of lease agreements will make a real difference.



What we are looking for?



A degree in Real Estate Management or equivalent experience
Experience in commercial property, lease events, or landlord and tenant matters
Strong knowledge of property law case law, and compliance requirements
Confidence in negotiation, drafting lease terms, and advising stakeholders
A collaborative team player who’s able to manage multiple projects at once
Ideally working towards MRICS and/or registered valuer status (desirable)
