Summary
Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. Within Immigration Enforcement Criminal and Financial Investigation (CFI) is responsible for the investigation of Immigration Crime. Cyber & Digital Capabilities (CDC) provides comprehensive digital forensics services to support these investigations, and wider Immigration Enforcement operations.
This includes, but is not limited to, the capture and preservation of data from digital devices (such as mobile phones, laptops, USB storage media, network storage, and vehicle infotainment systems), as well as the subsequent processing and analysis of resultant data to provide actionable evidence.
The Digital Forensic Kiosk Operator will conduct digital forensic examinations of seized mobile digital devices using XRY software. This will include acquisition and management of forensic data, ensuring the integrity and continuity of evidence is maintained, and the completion of accurate records. There will be a requirement to attend court to give evidence.
All Criminal and Financial Investigation staff are required to disclose any adverse judicial decisions or internal disciplinary matters under Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA). Applicants need to bear this in mind when considering their eligibility for this post.
As a key member of Cyber and Digital Capabilities (CDC) which is a national team providing Digital Forensic Services, you will:
- Working in a team of 8 dedicated Kiosk operators both at the Manston and Dover facility.
- Working closely with Criminal Investigators from CFI, conducting 1st line Digital Forensic examinations on devices seized during investigations.
- Working with Home Office Intelligence conducting digital forensic examinations to discover and develop intelligence to disrupt Organised Immigration Crime (OIC).
- Engaging and supporting other law enforcement partners both in the UK and mainland Europe, as required.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Kiosk Manager and working alongside other CDC staff the responsibilities of the Digital Forensic Kiosk Operator shall include, but not be limited to:
- Extracting data from lawfully seized electronic devices utilising forensic equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and Quality procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and the Forensic Science Regulators (FSR) Codes.
- Working closely with CFI Investigators to develop and record a forensic strategy to ensure the acquisition of data is proportionate, lawful and achieves the investigative objective.
- Arranging and maintaining access to suitable data sets and software in support of further data analysis ensuring digital media extraction and research is optimised fully.
- Responding to taskings authorised by management and received from the customer to ensure that efficient extraction and research is conducted and shared where suitable with other investigating agencies in a suitable format to maximise the investigative impact on organised immigration crime groups.
- Contributing to the ongoing development of the Digital Media extraction and research process, highlighting risks and improvement opportunities.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
Successful candidates will need to be able to attend for all shifts including early starts, late night finishes, and overnight shifts. These shifts may be outside of public transport operating hours.
Training
You will receive full training and support to do the job. Training takes place initially in the classroom and then continues on the job with a mentor who supports you until you are fully confident in the role. Travel
