Do you have experience of working in ICT and Information Security? Do the terms Public Services Network (PSN), ISO27001, vulnerabilities, and risk sound familiar?

An exciting opportunity has arisen join the Information Security team. As an Information Security Officer, you will be part of a hardworking, but small team supporting all departments across the council. You will help to provide a high-quality information security and compliance support within the ICT & Digital department ensuring all customer requests, compliance requirements and issues are captured and progressed swiftly to deliver robust, reliable, and cost-effective information security solutions. Meeting customer needs and expectations, as agreed in all corporate Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).

Your work will be varied but the essential skills and experience required for the role includes, but is not limited to, the support and administration of the information security solutions required to meet the requirements of the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF), the PSN code of connection (PSN CoCo), the ISO27001 standard, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DSPT)

This is not a hands on role requiring the management of cyber security systems. However, knowledge of cyber threats, vulnerability management, risk assessment, client/server networked systems, and security standards are essential. A logical approach to problem solving is also required, along with a minimum of 3 years’ experience of implementing high quality, customer focused ICT or information governance services within a busy and complex environment.

This is a challenging but highly rewarding role that would suit a motivated, committed, and disciplined individual who will become fully integrated into the current team. You will need to demonstrate a proactive approach, the ability to prioritise workloads, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to take ownership.

A career graded position, starting at a lower grade (grade 9), may be considered which offers the post holder to study and pass a BSc (Hons) in a relevant subject and gain the necessary experience, prior to being promoted to the full Information Security Officer position.

The successful candidate will be organised with excellent communication skills who can use their own initiative and also work effectively as part of a team/project using collaborative tools such as MS Teams.

The Isle of Wight Council is a champion of agile and flexible working practices, and this role will require a hybrid blend of remote and in-person office working. If preferred, there is the option to work entirely from our various council offices. The main ICT offices are based in County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight.

As a minimum, the expectation is that the successful candidate will need to attend a full day in our County Hall office every week on the agreed team day and attend any meetings in person as and when required. Remote working can then be working from home, working from other Council office locations or a mix of both.
