Clinical Leadership and Patient Care Lead the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team. Ensure that all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy. Maintain clinical credibility by demonstrating best practice, supporting others, and taking the lead in complex or high-risk situations. Team Development and Support Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and accountability. Support the development and assessment of competencies within the team, promoting continuous professional development. Actively mentor and coach junior staff, including students and newly qualified team members. Patient Safety and Safeguarding Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights, safety, and dignity are upheld at all times. Raise concerns where standards of care or safeguarding protocols are not met, in line with Circle Health Group policy. Support incident reporting, learning, and follow-up actions to improve safety and patient outcomes. Compliance and Best Practice Apply all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to theatre operations, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines, infection prevention, and evidence-based practice. Contribute to audit activity, quality assurance processes, and the implementation of improvement plans. Communication and Collaboration Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, recovery staff, and wider hospital teams to ensure effective patient flow and continuity of care. Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, patients, and families, maintaining professionalism and empathy at all times. Support the coordination and planning of theatre lists and daily staffing requirements, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery. Professional Development and Contribution to the Organisation Take ownership of your own professional development, maintaining competencies and revalidation requirements as required by NMC or HCPC. Contribute to the development of theatre policies, clinical guidelines, and service innovations. Essential: NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics). Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers. Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control, and clinical governance. Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification [for scrub leads]. ENB 998 and/or mentorship course. Approved / recognised anaesthetic course. ILS. Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills. Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others. Desirable: Specialist training in a defined clinical area (e.g. orthopaedics, robotics, cardiac, major surgery). Experience in leading audits, service improvement projects, or clinical teaching. Previous experience working within the independent healthcare sector or multidisciplinary surgical teams. Familiarity with theatre scheduling systems and electronic patient records.
