Operating Department Orderly
Band 2 - Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
We are recruiting for Operating Department Orderly for the Croydon Hospital Elective/Emergency Surgical Centre,(Theatre departments).
The role willinvolve assisting the team of registered and non-registered Theatre Practitioners in the care of patients, which involves working both inside and outside of the operating theatres, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidates will contribute to creating a safe, clean and welcoming environment for all patients
Please note: Work flexibility in a challenging environment is required, as you will be part of the 24-hour cover for theatres, which includes weekends, bank holidays, and nights.

The duties of Operating Department Orderlies working in a busy environment are:
• Assisting the surgical team of Practitioners in transferring of patients using Manual Handling technique
• Dealing with specimens for the laboratory
• Escorting patients to the theatre unit prior to surgery
• Escorting overnight stays to the surgical ward with the recovery nurse
• Cleaning the theatre environment after patient surgical procedures
• Rotating to the Emergency Surgical Centre, collecting blood samples and taking urgent specimens to the laboratory
• Checking the Sluice rooms daily
• Restocking the linen trolley.
• Restocking the staff Scrub suits for male or female changing rooms
• Escorting patients from Theatre Admission Lounge to theatre for surgical procedures
• Supporting the theatre practitioner in positioning patients on operating table
