As a Senior Digital Practice Support Manager, you will work within the Practice Support team to build Digital capability to grow and retain talent and build community and engagement for our practice members.

There are 5 roles available across 3 Practice Support Teams. Each role will each be responsible for leading on a strategy to attract, build and develop Capability within each Practice.

As a Senior Digital Practice Support Manager leading on Capability, you will play an active part within the Practice community, helping Job Families understand the bigger picture beyond their own area, encouraging collaborative cross-Practice delivery, providing professional support and help build capability.

Digital Group is organised into Communities of Practice, which are groups of people with similar or closely related skills, experience and job responsibilities, so they can easily collaborate, share ideas and skills, to build their own capabilities and achieve better outcomes.

Practice Support Managers in DWP Digital are responsible for attracting and building capability within their Practice communities. They work closely with the Head of Practice, Executive Sponsor and Heads of Role to co-ordinate recruitment, deploy members to assignments, identify suitable learning & development opportunities, support the organisation of practice events and in developing their Practice frameworks and plans, including measurable outcomes.

Practice Support Managers work in partnership with the central Digital Capability Team to shape, understand & communicate the strategic objectives and frameworks, then apply these to accelerate Digital performance and quality by championing common standards, common ways of working, common resources and creating communities of practice and role identity, factoring in any specific needs or requirements of the disciplines and roles within the Practice. These roles may have line management responsibilities. Key activities will include leading the Capability strategy for the Practice through:

  • Delivering against the attraction and retention strategy for recruiting and retaining a brilliant workforce.
  • Working closely with various stakeholders including Heads of Roles to identify learning, skills, knowledge and behaviour gaps that can be supported with a range of learning and development options.
  • Identifying and delivering a range of professional learning and development opportunities to build capability.
  • Regular communication and stakeholder engagement with Practice Members, other Practice Support Teams, Heads of Roles, wider Digital Group Teams, other Government Departments and external stakeholders.
  • Delivering engaging communications for the practice and practice members.
  • Reviewing and utilising data and reporting tools for data analysis, financial management and drafting various strategies to support the wider Practice Team.
  • Creating and delivering in house development programmes and learning opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with wider Digital and DWP colleagues to promote DWP Digital as an employer of choice and promote the career opportunities and pathways available.
  • Utilising Data and Management Information (MI) to support business planning.
  • Manage the learning and development budget for the Practice. Recording and monitoring all financial expenditure, advising on return on investment and providing budgetary updates for Senior Stakeholders.
