Young person requires support

Preferred days/times:
Three days per week of 8 hours per day, for thirteen weeks per year during college holidays

Tasks/duties:
Cutting up food and support with feeding, administering medication, support with continence needs, bathing, and support in the community on a 1:1 basis


Client main diagnosis:
The client has a formal diagnosis of Beta Propeller Associated Neurodegeneration (BPAN) which damages the nervous system and affects development. NBIA is a rare, inherited, neurological movement disorder characterized by an abnormal accumulation of iron in the brain and progressive degeneration of the nervous system with a presentation similar to Parkinson's disease.

Epilepsy - History of seizures.

Left sided weakness.

Manual Handling
The client wears Piedro boots when mobilising and requires a wheelchair if they need to walk further than 20 metres. They always use a wheelchair when outdoors.

Pets
The client’s rabbit lives in the property, and two cats

Communication:
Non-verbal and facial body language is used to anticipate the client’s needs. They can point to things and use key words which is their preferred method of communication. They know some Makaton, however, do not use it themselves.
The client also communicates via the Picture exchange communication system at school, and using photos, pictures and objects of reference.

Food.
They dislike loud noises and are touch sensitive.
