We are recruiting to an FY2-equivalent role in Diabetes at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. This position is suited to doctors looking to gain additional clinical experience before entering specialty training. The role combines service delivery with educational opportunities within the Division of Medicine. Post-holders will work under the supervision of a named consultant and have access to a range of professional development activities, including medical education, quality improvement, and leadership. While this is not a recognised UK training post, the role provides opportunities to enhance your CV and gain experience relevant to future applications. Support will be available to help you work towards completing the Certificate of Readiness to Enter Specialty Training (CREST) Form, depending on your prior experience and progress. An Introduction to the Specialty from Dr DCosta, Head of Clinical Service The Diabetes & Endocrinology team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust provides specialist services across three hospital sites: Dewsbury District Hospital, Pinderfields Hospital, and Pontefract General Infirmary. Our acute inpatient care is delivered on Gate 32, a dedicated Diabetes & Endocrinology ward at Pinderfields Hospital. Additionally, we provide a specialist multidisciplinary in-reach service to the wider hospital and operate an e-consultation service. Consultants follow a Physician of the Week model, rotating between inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. The team also participates in the Acute Medicine on-call rota at Pinderfields Hospital, with compensatory rest following weekend shifts. Outpatient services are available across all three sites, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team that includes diabetes and endocrine nurse specialists, dietitians, podiatrists, and clinical psychologists. Specialist clinics cover a range of conditions, including diabetic foot disease, pregnancy-related diabetes and endocrine disorders, young adult diabetes, insulin pump therapy, and weight management. Regular Diabetes and Endocrine MDTs, along with a monthly Radiology MDT, enhance collaborative care. The department maintains strong ties with primary care through an established shared referral pathway and an award-winning GP in-reach "buddy" system, improving diabetes management in the community. We are a supportive and dynamic team that values professional development and specialist interests. We welcome new colleagues and are committed to tailoring roles to support career progression. The Service Role These are full-time ward based, 08:30 16:30 posts averaging 40 hours per week in line with the 2016 junior doctor contract. Duties will be based at Pinderfields Hospital. Post-holders will take supervised responsibility for patient care, building on their existing skills and experience. As they progress, they will continue to work under clinical supervision while gradually taking on more responsibility, including contributing to clinical decision-making. The role also provides opportunities to develop core skills in leadership, education, and training. By the end of the post, candidates will have gained experience in clinical effectiveness, decision-making, and patient management, preparing them for the next stage of their careers.
