Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join Booker’s Commercial Finance team as a Senior Commercial Analyst on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

In this senior analytical role, you will play a key part in preparing budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and internal reporting for Booker. You will have primary responsibility for maintaining the IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) database and will work closely with the wider finance team to coordinate, consolidate, analyze, and challenge proposed budgets and forecasts.

Collaboration is essential, as you will also work with the Tesco FP&A team to meet deadlines and resolve queries efficiently. Additionally, this role includes managing one direct report, including conducting bi-annual performance reviews.

We offer a hybrid working model, with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home per week, subject to business needs.

  • IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) Database Management

    • Primary responsibility for maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of the IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) database.

    • Manage data uploads, troubleshoot failed uploads, and reconcile discrepancies between data sources.

    • Maintain data integrity and ensure the accuracy of reports driven from the database.

  • Financial Data Preparation & Reporting

    • Gather and prepare actuals, budgets, and forecasts using data from SAP, Business Objects, and the wider finance team.

    • Oversee reconciliation processes to ensure consistency across multiple data sources.

    • Produce and maintain Excel templates and VBA scripts for streamlined financial reporting.

    • Run SQL queries to support management reporting.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

    • Create category manager-level budgets and brand-level budget splits.

    • Collate the group rolling forecast and ensure accurate reporting.

    • Support quarterly sales reporting and produce statutory sales reports.

  • Process Improvement & Training

    • Assist with the rollout of new TM1 user training and provide ongoing support for user queries.

    • Drive continuous improvement and development of financial models and processes.

  • Ad Hoc Analysis & Strategic Support

    • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support decision-making and the ongoing FP&A agenda.

  • Technical ExpertiseIntermediate to advanced Excel skills, including proficiency in data analysis and financial modelling.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Strong numerical aptitude, keen attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex financial problems.

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) – Experience in FP&A preferred, with knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

  • TM1 Database Management – Responsible for maintaining and optimising the IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) database.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting – Preparation of budgets and forecasts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives.

  • Financial Reporting – Providing key financial insights to internal stakeholders at Booker and the Tesco FP&A team.

  • Leadership ExperienceLine management of one direct report, including performance reviews and ongoing development.

  • Accounting QualificationQualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent preferred).
