Summary

The Role

The Building Services Engineer is responsible for ensuring all Parliament Mechanical & Electrical services (such as boilers, air handling units, high voltage switch gear etc) are maintained and operational at all times.

This post will be required to work a 36-hour week Monday to Friday. Either 0700hrs to 1600hrs or 1000hrs to 1900hrs. (Note this may require some Saturday working for which an additional payment will be made)

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Identify and manage repairs to building Mechanical & Electrical services (including controls systems such as our 11KV switchgear, transformers, 3 Phase 415V Unit Boards, Trend BMS steam and mechanical ventilation etc.)

  • Provide technical specifications, select appropriate resources, raise works instructions/orders and supervise works to completion.
  • Undertake the direct repair of engineering services in order to maintain the availability of services (provided within skill set and safe to do so)
  • Utilise the Trend BMS system to ensure all plant and infra structure is operational, identify and rectify faults as required.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • NVQ Level 3 in a Building Services related subject.
  • Significant experience of maintaining building electrical or mechanical installations such as 415V Distribution boards and associated cabling, large motors, and or pumps and Air handling units etc in a complex and demanding environment.
  • Experience of preparing and approving permit works, building services risk assessments and method statements, carrying out site-based safety inspections.
  • Willingness to promote a culture of diversity and inclusion and support others in the delivery of their roles.

The Team

The Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST) is responsible for the planning and delivery of building and engineering services maintenance activity and projects.

The team provides reactive maintenance support to resolve incidents or asset failures across the Estate. In addition, we support the delivery of key seasonal and major ceremonial events on behalf of Parliament. Our team has the expertise and adaptability to support with the varied and unique issues presented by an ageing estate - the team's work spans from fixing a squeaky hinge, to installing complex heating and cooling systems.
