Crynodeb

The Department for Business & Trade (DBT) is the department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country – sitting at the heart of the government’s Growth Mission.

This role is part of DBT’s Infrastructure Partnerships Team, which helps UK businesses win work on infrastructure projects in key international markets, thereby supporting UK exports and economic growth. Our work drives international sustainable development and climate resilience, through utilising the UK’s expertise across diverse infrastructure sectors (including energy, transport, water, education and healthcare).

We focus on complex, high-value projects, and use a range of “partnership approaches” to bring UK businesses into these. Our approaches include forging diplomatic government-to-government partnerships, supporting early-stage project development, facilitating knowledge exchange, and partnering with like-minded governments to deliver multilateral solutions to infrastructure challenges.

Within this team, the Opportunities sub-team pursues and implements projects using these partnership approaches, and is organised by geography into three teams: the Indo-Pacific; Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia; and Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan.

DBT is a fantastic place to work, with wide-ranging responsibilities across the UK economy, providing the chance to make a positive difference to peoples’ lives. Our team is fun, friendly and supportive. We are committed to creating a positive and inclusive working environment, and are looking for people who can contribute to this culture, as well as to what we deliver.

We are recruiting two exciting roles in our Opportunities team, to work as Partnerships Coordinators for two of our regions: Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan; and the Indo-Pacific.

These roles offer a unique opportunity to work at the leading edge of infrastructure development, in a dynamic international department. These are fast-paced and delivery-focused roles that will support the identification, assessment, negotiation and implementation of new infrastructure partnerships.

There may be opportunities for international travel.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Market coordination – You will be responsible for managing engagement with specific priority markets, working with your team, colleagues based in British embassies, wider DBT teams (particularly Sector teams) and other government departments. There will be scope to lead relationships with some markets.

  • Opportunity assessment – You will contribute to the analysis of partnership opportunities and approaches, developing deep knowledge of your priority markets, relevant capabilities from UK businesses and the UK Government's export support toolkit. This will involve innovative thinking to identify the most suitable partnerships approach informed by desk research and leveraging the relationships you have built.

  • Pipeline management – Working closely with colleagues across the wider team, you will lead on managing your regional team's pipeline partnership opportunities, including through providing insights on progress, risks, engagement, next steps, and communications and engagement. This will involve keeping relevant management tools and databases up to date.

  • Account management – You will account manage UK infrastructure businesses including through regular meetings, sharing intel on their priorities and supporting their engagement with our work.

  • Infrastructure Exports: UK (IE:UK) – You will lead on the coordination of Infrastructure Exports: UK (IE:UK) Board operating in your region. This includes responsibility for the smooth running of activity and working with Strategy colleagues with responsibility for the central IE:UK Board to share information and relevant updates.
