Underpinned by evidence-based decision making, our work programmes cover 5 areas: science, species, places, people and policy.What's the role about? We are seeking to appoint a Business Analyst to join our Conservation Data Department.Joining a small team of Business Analysts, we investigate, analyse and understand user needs for a range of systems which support and evidence RSPB’s conservation work. We work closely with the development teams which support and evidence RSPB’s conservation work. These systems are comprised of our in-house GIS database and a mix of ESRI tools and Microsoft PowerApps.Your primary project will be on the replacement of our in-house GIS system. This will involve engaging with core users to elicit user story requirements and working closely with the development team to iteratively build a user-focused future solution.Working in small development teams allows for a variety of tasks so being flexible and having a T-shaped skillset would be a considerable advantage. As a business analyst you will also support and champion RSPB’s growing digital maturity.The BA team comprises a mix of fully home-based members and others who regularly work from our UK or Scottish Headquarters. The successful candidate would ideally be based within commuting distance of either HQ while also having good broadband connectivity for home-based work. Dependent on location and hot desk availability, there may also be the opportunity to work occasionally from amongst reserve staff, allowing that broader gathering of tacit knowledge and gaining direct experience of the digital tools our colleagues need for their work.You will be working with friendly staff who are passionate about conservation. If you are interested in making a real difference for the RSPB and nature conservation in the UK and globally, then we can offer you a unique opportunity to further your business analysis career within the RSPB’s community of Business Analysts.Although remote working is available the ideal candidate will be required to regularly commute to our HQ in Sandy.What do we need from you?Essential knowledge and skills:Educated to graduate level and ideally with a professional BA qualification, the successful candidate will be -Able to work confidently both remotely and in person, with a range of diverse stakeholders and users at all levels of the organisation and in locations across the UK.Experienced at eliciting requirements and analysing processes, ensuring alignment with business objectives while ensuring systems have the users’ needs at the heart of them.Experience of writing business cases, including cost benefit analysis, impact and risk assessments of options and recommendation. Able to work independently, using your initiative and judgement to resolve problems.Able to synthesise large amounts of information and undertake detailed analyses, presenting these in visually appealing ways.Able to engage in testing and support user testing ensuring that products are delivered to a high-quality standard.Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 tools (e.g. Excel, Whiteboard, Visio, PowerPoint etc.), with experience in wireframing toolsPrepared to take on new challenges outside your comfort zone, and to demonstrate a willingness to make decisions and act.Keen to advocate what the RSPB stands for.Desirable:An understanding of GIS systems and uses including creating maps and the management of species data.An interest in natural history and an understanding of the threats facing nature and the possible tools that can be developed to address them.An understanding of UX principles and user centred design.Any previous SQL query writing experience.
