The successful candidate would be expected to deliver clinical excellence, be motivated and adaptable to changes within the NHS, and have a drive to improve patient care and services. A willingness to develop and work within a constantly changing environment is necessary together with an ability to remain calm under pressure. The successful candidate ideally will bring additional skills and special interests that complement the existing neonatal team. This might include, but is by no means limited to, an interest in perinatal care including antenatal counselling and liaison with fetal medicine, perinatal and neonatal palliative care, family integrated care, and transition to tertiary paediatric services. Skills and experience in point of care ultrasound, including echocardiography, would also be beneficial, but again not essential. The department is research active with a strong academic team led by Prof. Mark Johnson, Associate Prof Brigitte Vollmer, and Associate Prof Nigel Hall. There are close links to the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and MRC. Candidates would be expected to support the on-going research programme and to engage in NIHR portfolio studies. There are excellent opportunities for personal development, research and teaching. Candidates will ideally have a CCT in Neonates or equivalent experience as defined by the Neonatal CSAC (either 36 months of level 3 neonatology or 24 months level 3 neonatal experience with 12 months allied specialities at ST6-8) or experience as a consultant in a level 3 neonatal unit, and ideally be on the GMCs Specialist Register. Trainees who are within six months of obtaining their neonatal CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply. Additional Information Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003. Interviews will be held on 7th May 2025.
