This is a fixed term contract with the position commencing ASAP.

We wish to welcome a locum consultant with experience in orbit and Oculoplastics to join a team of two other Oculoplastic consultants, two fellows and a nurse specialist in a department that has a strong focus on research, development and training.

You will be exposed to the subspecialties of Oculoplastic, orbit and thyroid clinics as well as an array of MDT clinics and surgical opportunities.

Regular operating sessions will provide training opportunity for fellows and trainees. There is an opportunity for endonasal DCR surgery, orbital surgery and oculoplastic surgery both elective and emergency in a tertiary hospital setting.

The department has strong links to the University of Southampton and is the region's leading provider of eye care with global and UK wide research and education activity. The post will provide opportunity for professional development.

You will lead multiple clinics and theatres per week. MDT meetings (skin cancer, neuro-orbital, head & neck, skull base etc) should be attended by the selected candidate multiple times on a weekly basis for patient afferent to the orbital and oculoplastic clinics. On occasions you may be asked to liaise with various Trust teams in order support clinical decision making on cancer, inflammatory disease and congenital malformations in patients originating from other departments. Teaching and junior doctor supervision is mandatory requirement of the post.

Possible orbital and oculoplastic ad hoc theatre lists may be necessary to accommodate emergency patients.

Occasional requests of supporting Neurosurgery, ENT, MaxFax and MOHS may be possible outside the Eye Department in the Trust.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

- Full GMC registration.
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- Fellowship training in Oculoplastics and Orbit
- Candidate must have a strong orbital and oculoplastic training experience in a well-recognised orbital fellowship programme

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).

You will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
