About the Role
The post holder will be a member of our educational based Mental Health Support Teams working in partnership with social care, health and education agencies.
To deliver accessible, counselling, therapeutic and evidenced based interventions for children & young people with a range of emotional & behavioural difficulties. These vulnerabilities may include: Learning difficulties/disability, ASD, ADHD and/or developmental/conduct disorders. Children and Y/P who may have suffered trauma/abuse/bereavement.
The role will also involve supporting educational colleagues in embedding a whole school approach to mental health with workshops, presentations and group work.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Accredited qualification Level 4 or above in a therapeutic counselling/ psychotherapeutic modality with membership with a professional body such as BACP/UKCP.
- Knowledge of ethical standards and therapeutic techniques, including person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and solution-focused therapy, is vital for effective practice.
- Practical experience working in a school setting, ideally working with diverse backgrounds, facilitating group sessions, working with families, and collaborating with school staff (Designated safeguarding leads, Senior mental health Leads, teachers, and administrators) is important to ensure a cohesive support system for the student.
- An understanding of how family dynamics can influence mental health, as well as knowledge of the various mental health challenges that children and families may face. Additionally, an awareness of different therapeutic approaches to address these issues effectively.
- Experience with risk assessment, crisis intervention, and working within legal and ethical frameworks ensures that the candidate can respond appropriately to sensitive situations and safeguard the wellbeing of students.
- A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
