Summary
Working on MAU, you are responsible forthe admission and care of patients referred from General Practitioners and the Emergency Department. Junior medical cover on MAU consists of fourClinical Fellows working alongside three Foundation Year 2 doctors in a full shift rota. You are expected to present their cases during consultant led post take ward rounds, maintainfull, clear clinical notes, and makeappropriate handoverarrangements when going off duty. You are also responsible for looking after wardpatients out of regular hours.
Middle grade doctors will be present on site to supervise them at all times. The post-holder willbe requiredto be as flexible as possible in respect of working hours,in order toallow some flexibility in the MAU rota.
Junior Doctors may be asked to work on either hospital sitein the event ofemergencies.
The evolution of working practices may also lead to changes in the planned rotations which might involve working on both sites
Working alongside our consultants in this role you would assess and manage Acute medical common presentations.
We are keen to develop our junior doctors, alljunior clinical fellowsareallocatedan educational supervisor who will work with you to ensure you are developing your skills and knowledge within the role, you will support you tomaintainlogbooksand portfolio.
You will have opportunities to get involved in weekly teaching sessions in MAU, as aJunior Clinical Fellow canexpect extensive training in every aspect of Acute Medicine and ambulatory care.
You will alsobe responsible forthe teaching undergraduate students firm attached to Acute Medicine and foundation doctors working in Acute Medicine.
Thisrole would enable you to develop your skills and knowledge in acute medicine, we are keen to involve our fellows in quality improvement and service development and we want to ensure we understand any interests youhave toenable you to develop in this role and your career.
As a clinical fellow you will have 10 days study leave per year which you can use toattend relevantprofessional courses to help developyou.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the major acute trusts in the Northwest of England with all of the usual specialties on site, as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the Departments of Neurosciences, Nephrology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery and Burns. Undergraduate medical student teaching commenced in 2003.
