Crynodeb

This is a Senior Leadership role, reporting to the Grade 7 team within DWP HR Casework.

The DWP HR Advice and Support Service provides expert HR advice on high profile and/ or complex HR cases, the role holder will support this by providing managers and senior leaders in the business areas with an independent and dedicated source of support to manage high profile and/or complex HR and Employment Tribunal Cases.

These can be cases that:

  • represent a significant risk to the business and / or the reputation of DWP
  • are likely to be subject to media and / or Ministerial interest
  • involve multiple strands / complainants / witnesses

This is a high-profile role where the vacancy holder will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to show resilience due to the nature of the work involved. The ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including senior leaders, and a range of specialist colleagues, is a critical part of the role to maintain a quality service.

Success in this role will be based on your ability to provide high quality HR advice in a professional and timely manner as well as the ability to articulate and write up case advice concisely, in line with DWP Policies. The ability to analyse and manage information to identify trends and areas of concern, including legally privileged information, confidentially and with sensitivity is essential.

The role holder will need to demonstrate strong organisation skills in order to work flexibly and proactively to manage their varied workload, with often fixed deadlines.

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting managers with crisis resolution, including providing tailored support to Line Managers to build individual and business capability.
  • Leading on aspects of complex cases which involve seeking approval for compensation or settlement.
  • Acting as a Single Point of Contact – to ensure continuity in complex, long-term or group cases and consistency in decision making.
  • Managing a variety of complex Employment Tribunals, minimising risk to the department – both reputational and financial.
  • Leading on the analysis of management information/data of HR casework and litigation information, including prognosis and case closure letters to identify trends, areas of concerns and report to the team on any themes which supports business improvement.
  • Liaising with stakeholders, such as Government Legal Department, Occupational Health, Trade Unions, HR Business Partners and the Senior Civil Service.
  • Developing and keeping up-to-date knowledge on HR Policy and Employment Law.
