The role: We are seeking a confident and experienced Senior Payroll Officer with strong knowledge of PAYE, salary sacrifice, and taxable benefits. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Excel, comfortable with manual gross-to-net calculations, and able to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment. A keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of payroll legislation are essential.



Key Responsibilities:

Manage and process monthly staff and pensioner payrolls, including BACS payments, GL files, and statutory deductions.
Handle complex payroll data, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submissions.
Resolve payroll and pension queries, liaising with internal teams and external bodies (e.g., HMRC).
Maintain and update knowledge of PAYE, salary sacrifice, and taxable benefits legislation.
Provide training and support to team members; assist with onboarding and compliance checks.
Ensure data confidentiality and accurate reporting under Data Protection regulations.
Use ESR and Compendia systems to log issues and process updates.
Confidently perform manual gross-to-net calculations and support audit readiness.



What the client is looking for:

Confidence with manual gross-to-net calculations
Strong knowledge of PAYE, salary sacrifice, and taxable benefits legislation
Ability to hit the ground running and work independently
High proficiency in Excel and data analysis
Experience managing complex and high-volume payrolls
Familiarity with ESR and Compendia systems (desirable)
Excellent communication and stakeholder liaison skills
Commitment to data protection and confidentiality
