West Herts NHS Trust is offering an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term, full-time ST3/MN37 Trust Registrar to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. This position is for 12 months, with the potential for extension.

As part of an experienced and supportive team of Specialty Doctors and Registrars, you will work across St Albans City Hospital and Watford General Hospital.

Your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality specialist inpatient and outpatient care for patients with Trauma and Orthopaedic conditions, referred by General Practitioners and hospital colleagues.

We are committed to providing excellent learning and training opportunities, allowing you to specialise in hip and knee replacements, knee arthroscopies, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, as well as shoulder and elbow procedures.

Your primary responsibility will be within Trauma and Orthopaedics, encompassing both Elective Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery.

Your clinical duties on the Orthopaedic wards will include conducting ward rounds, attending and assisting in theatres and clinics, and participating in the on-call rota under consultant supervision.

As a senior team member, you will provide daily supervision and support to Junior Doctors and non-Consultant medical staff while actively engaging in multidisciplinary team meetings.

You will also be encouraged to participate in Clinical Governance activities, contribute to national audits, and pursue further professional development opportunities.

This is a fixed-term, full-time Trust Registrar post designed to provide training and experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics. It is ideal for a surgical trainee who has successfully passed the MRCS examination and is seeking additional orthopaedic experience before applying for a Specialist Registrar position. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals to join, learn from, and contribute to the Orthopaedic surgical team.

The successful applicants will join the Trauma and Orthopaedic department at the Registrar level. They will participate in the middle-tier rota alongside a junior doctor and an orthopaedic consultant based at WHHT, covering both sites. The role also includes weekend on-call duties within the framework of the Working Time Directive.

While this post does not hold formal training recognition, the successful applicant will be expected to fully engage in the Directorate’s educational and Clinical Governance programme.
