At Cavendish Nuclear we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Mechanical Engineer at our Rosyth site.

The role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The Mechanical Engineer role sits within our Cavendish Nuclear business. From decommissioning redundant nuclear facilities and supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent to aiding the operation and construction of nuclear power plants, Cavendish Nuclear is at the forefront of cleaning up the nuclear legacy. Our mission is to create a world where nuclear plays a key role in protecting our nation, ensuring energy security, and meeting net zero commitments. Our highly skilled team tackles major defence, decommissioning, new build, and nuclear generation projects, winning over 78% of our latest tenders while driving the UK closer to Net Zero through our work with Hinkley C, Sizewell C, and X Energy.

As part of this role, you will contribute to the Submarine Dismantling Project (SDP). It will be a collaborative venture between public sector bodies and private organisations to achieve a world-first in dismantling past classes of nuclear submarine.

Day to day you'll:

  • Promote effective cooperation across Engineering and other functional teams.
  • Interface with customers and supply chain on design issues and assist with procurement specifications.
  • Ensure correct application of procedures, codes, and standards to technical and engineering activities.
  • Contribute to Product Safety Assessment and provide technical interface with stakeholders.
  • Conduct technical investigations and analysis for problem resolution and design improvements.
  • Drive process improvements within the operational/design lifecycle for quality and efficiency.

This role is full time 37 hours per week based onsite at Rosyth on a hybrid working basis. However location is adaptable and can be delivered from various locations.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer
Nuclear experience is not a requirement for this role. If you are someone who owns and delivers, who champions high performance and has the courage to challenge the status quo, then we would like to hear from you. We welcome applicants from all engineering backgrounds who are able to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum HNC/HND in Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of CAD tools and General Engineering Drawing Practice.
  • The ability to build strong and influential relationships with key stakeholders.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
