An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly Occupational Therapy team within the School of Health and Social Work. The Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy will play an essential role in the delivery of our new Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship programme which has recently had its first cohorts of qualifying occupational therapists.

Main duties and responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced occupational therapist. You will be responsible for the teaching, support, and assessment of apprentices at the University or on placement. You will utilise current evidence-base healthcare to underpin teaching and learning activities. You may participate in development and reviews of programmes including inter-professional developments across the School, and contribute to undergraduate curriculum developments; including development, delivery and teaching of modules within the programme.

You will contribute to the administration of the School by undertaking additional roles, such as being a module lead and joining teams involved in activities such as admissions, timetabling or programme support. You will also be expected to undertake and contribute to Occupational Therapy research in due course. You will contribute to the planning of placement opportunities as part of the practice team for the programme.

You will liaise with and maintain good relationships with colleagues across the School and University.

Skills and Experience

You will be an experienced practicing Occupational Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, with recent academic and/or practice experience and knowledge of the UK system. You’ll have a breadth of relevant occupational therapy practice in either physical and/or mental health. You will have a keen interest in in pre-registration education within occupational therapy and an awareness of degree apprenticeships for the profession.

Your application will demonstrate a sustained interest and knowledge of contemporary Occupational Therapy practice. You will demonstrate a willingness to undertake Occupational Therapy research, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in the English language. You will be able to organise yourself and others, working effectively on your own initiative and as part of a team, whilst being adaptable to change and flexible to team and workload requirements. It is essential that you can work without close supervision and be self-motivated, are able to deal with conflicting demands and priorities to meet deadlines, possessing good interpersonal skills and ability to create excellent working relationships.

Being willing to contribute to inter-professional teaching and learning activities, with an interest in evidence-based healthcare is key. You must be able to contribute to curriculum development and have an appreciation and understanding of the educational needs of students, with an understanding of students’ prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations. A committed approach to issues related to equality and diversity is essential for this role.

You will be able to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues, with a proven ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a variety of audiences. This role requires that you have excellent IT Skills.

Qualifications required

The successful applicant will be educated with an honours degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification) in related discipline, and have completed a Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as an Occupational Therapist is essential.
