Chelmsford City Council are seeking a skilled and motivated Team Manager to lead our Building Control Officers and support staff in delivering an exceptional, forward-thinking service in accordance with our Building Control Policy Statement and Service Plan. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious leader to innovate and drive forward their vision of what a modern building control service should look like.

The role will involve overseeing the daily operations of the Building Control Service, ensuring compliance with all relevant building regulations and legislative requirements. The successful applicant will play a key role in budget management and represent Building Control on inter-service working parties and external partnerships. The Team Manager's leadership will be crucial in achieving performance targets, maintaining service continuity, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Applicants must be registered with the Building Safety Regulator as a Class 3 (Specialist) and Class 4 (Technical Manager) Registered Building Inspector and will also have extensive knowledge of the Building Safety Regulator Operational Standard Rules and the Key Performance Indicators that support them. A strong understanding of the regulatory framework, including the sections of the Building Act 1984 and Building Safety Act 2022 that relate to higher-risk buildings and amendments to the Building Act 1984, is essential.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as well as a relevant qualification, such as R.I.C.S. or ABE membership.
