Summary

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) - ASAP start - London

This friendly and diverse primary school in London is currently looking for an ELSA to join the dedicated and welcoming team of support staff to work with children across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

Supporting children both individually and in small groups, including children with SEMH and SEND, the main goal for you as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant will be to help each of your key children to feel happy in school and to be able to reach their full potential - academically and personally.

As an ELSA, your key responsibilities will include:

• Planning individual and group sessions to provide mentoring and emotional support for children
• Supporting children through a number of things, such as loss and bereavement, anxiety, bullying, and anger management
• Monitoring the progress of your key children
• Working closely with other members of staff, including class teachers, other support staff, and the SENDCO
• Helping children with relaxation techniques and social skills
• Delivering specialised 1:1 or small group interventions to children who experience emotional, social or behavioural challenges
• Supporting children to help them to build their self esteem and regulate their emotions

Prior experience working in a school or childcare setting and supporting children with SEND and/or SEMH needs is needed for this position as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, and a strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health challenges in children is important. A background in psychology would also be desirable, but not essential.

This is a full-time ELSA role to work Monday-Friday (8:30am-3:45pm) and to last long-term until the end of the academic year, as the children need consistent support and someone they feel they are able to trust. You will be able to see the progress your key children make across the school year, making it a very rewarding role. There is also the potential for it to become a permanent position in the future.
