The Chief Data Officer’s (CDO) Directorate is a new directorate that sits within the Chief Scientific Advisor Group. This new function is responsible for setting the approach to and direction and ambition of all data related services, platforms, and projects within DHSC. It will deliver corporate and ministerial data services, lead cross-Whitehall data relationships, drive improvements and innovations in the department’s use of data and develop, define, and promote the department’s role and purpose with respect to data across the Department of Health and Social Care and its Executive Agencies (EAs).

The National Drug and Alcohol Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) is a large and complex data collection system which covers the whole of England in the community and across the secure estate. The continued collection of the data is fundamental to the delivery and evaluation of the UK drug policy.

The Department of Health and Social Care has responsibility for monitoring the performance of the drug treatment system in England. To this end various performance management reports and statistical releases are produced using data collected through the National Drug & Alcohol Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS).
There are 7 small NDTMS teams across the country, whose purpose is to obtain accurate, good quality, timely information for reporting drug and alcohol treatment
activity.

As a manager of a local NDTMS team, you will lead a data collection and data Quality Assurance (QA) team in delivering an effective data collection service monitoring the performance of the drug and alcohol treatment system in England. The National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) collects, collates and analyses information from and for those involved in the drug and alcohol treatment sector and includes a specific dataset focused on the needs of young people. High quality data collection is an essential part of the overall public health programme focused on reducing harm from drug and alcohol misuse.
