The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Sexual Health Practitioner to join our team.
As part of a proactive early intervention programme, you will work with young people aged 15-24 and vulnerable adults, collaborating with local services to provide targeted support. Your role will involve:
• engaging and identifying individuals and groups at risk to reduce new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), teenage pregnancies, and providing one-on-one support.
• ensuring clients are informed about available contraceptive options and sexual health services, promote contraception use, encourage participation in the Condom Card Scheme, and deliver high-quality sexual health education programmes in schools and other satellites and locations across the borough.
• delivering effective sexual health advice, support and interventions to young people and vulnerable adults.
• being aware of and addressing issues relating to stigma and other barriers to accessing sexual health support across our diverse communities in Redbridge.
• maintaining accurate records and communicating professionally including with key stakeholders and partner agencies.
The Service
Via have been providing health and wellbeing services in Redbridge since April 2018, including our adult and young people’s drug and alcohol service, a smoking cessation service, and a Sexual Health service (Bewize). Our services are held in high esteem across the borough, and we are proud of the relationships we have developed and outcomes achieved.
Bewize is an integral part of the Via treatment network in Redbridge, dedicated to supporting young people and vulnerable adults and promoting sexual health and wellbeing. This includes individuals directly impacted by sexual health concerns, those affected by someone else’s sexual health issues, and the wider community, all aimed at improving overall health and wellbeing.
Bewize provides a comprehensive range of sexual health services, including education, prevention, contraceptive support, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), Condom Card Scheme and psychosocial support interventions. These services are designed to assist young people and vulnerable adults who are seeking advice and/or treatment related to their sexual health needs.
Location
Although predominantly based between Barkingside and Ilford Town Centre, the role will involve travel to schools, pharmacies and satellites within the borough, and to other Via locations as needed.
The usual hours of work are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm although some occasional engagement work outside of these hours is shared in rotation with other colleagues.
