This role is in the NHS Pensions team within the Workforce Directorate. It’s a great place to work, with supportive and high performing colleagues.

The NHS Pension Scheme is one of the largest pension schemes in the country, with 1.8 million people contributing. It is a valuable part of the reward package for NHS staff. The Department sets rules and policies to ensure the scheme is sustainable and supports NHS employers to attract and retain their workforces.

NHS pensions policy is a technical and complex area. This is a varied and challenging role, at a time of significant policy development across public service pension schemes. The postholder will play a leading role in driving forward opportunities for the pension offer to support employers retain their workforce. They will take on a substantial portfolio of policy areas that are topical and frequently in the media, and in which they will become a subject matter expert.

They will work with colleagues across Whitehall and NHS system partners, representing the Department with stakeholders and working at pace to advise ministers and senior officials. In doing so they will collaborate with lawyers, actuaries and analysts to develop detailed evidence-based policy options drawing on data and behavioural insight, and run consultations on statutory instruments to deliver legislative changes.
