You will be required to work as part of a team to agreed timescales, undertaking duties connected with public parks, landscaped areas, streets, and be involved in road maintenance including winter gritting.

Duties include carrying out roads maintenance tasks, drains and related services, including excavating, laying bituminous materials, raking, slabbing and kerbing; driving and operating a range of vehicles, plant or machinery including mechanical sweepers, gully emptiers, jet patchers, nuphalt machines, specialised sweeping vehicles; maintaining parks, cemeteries and open spaces including the general upkeep of hard and soft landscaping areas, grass cutting and maintenance of flower/shrub beds.

It is essential that you have a full Category C + E driving licence (Pre-2013 LGV Class 2 Licence) or a commitment to achieving this within 6 months of commencing employment. It is also essential that you have experience of manual work, road construction and maintenance, civil engineering or Streetscene activities. You will also have knowledge of COSHH regulations and relevant Health and Safety legislation. You must be able to undertake a work pattern which will include evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Experience of working with powered tools and light plant, working within Grounds Maintenance, Waste or Roads Maintenance services and working with Quality and Health and Safety Management Systems is desirable. An SVQ level 2 qualification in Highway Maintenance (or equivalent demonstrable experience), an SVQ level 3 in Roadworks, HAUC Operatives Certification and NPTC – PA1 and PA2 Certificate in safe use of pesticides are desirable.

Post hours are an average of 37 hours per week:-

4 on 4 off Days (April – September)

4 on 4 off Evenings/Nights (October - March)

Hours worked between 2200 and 0700 will receive a night enhancement.
