We are now recruiting for a Rent Recovery Assistant to join our team on a fixed term contract for up to 12 months. The current post holder has been seconded into a new role. As part of the Housing Income and Leaseholder Management team, you will provide income recovery services, focussing on arrears prevention and low-level arrears management, which contribute to the wider income management team objective of minimising arrears and maximising tenancy sustainment.

What you will do in this role:



In this role, working with the Income Management Advisors (IMAs), and the wider team, you will:
manage a caseload of rent accounts to minimise arrears through application of rent recovery processes.
negotiate with tenants to establish sustainable payment plans to ensure tenancies are sustained and rent income maximised for the Authority.
provide guidance and support to tenants around claiming Housing Benefit and Universal Credit to ensure tenants receive appropriate support.
work proactively to ensure tenancies are started well to maximise sustainment and reduce arrears.
serve notices and visit tenants as part of the rent recovery process.
liaise with both internal departments and external agencies to ensure rent arrears are reduced and tenancies sustained.
ensure that Direct Debit processes are followed to facilitate the accurate and timely payment of rent by tenants.
To prepare paperwork for court cases in support of the IMAs

What we are looking for in the successful candidate:
You will have demonstrable experience working in an income management, or similar, environment and will be educated to A Level or hold a level 3 qualification in a relevant subject. You will be comfortable working with numbers, have good communication skills, and take a problem-solving approach to your work.
