Introduction to the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with the skills to be able to teach prisoners how to make products in our Social Enterprise workshop.
A range of wooden items will be made. A creative mind to recycle materials and make something new, and also create and make wooden items.
An individual with skills that include wood working and experience with tools and machinery would be an advantage.
Some essential skills include -
• Selecting appropriate materials, including the type and grade of wood
• Marking out precise cutting lines on materials
• Utilising a variety of hand tools and machinery to cut and shape wood
• Assembling cut and shaped pieces using nails, screws, glue, clamps etc
• Ensuring all pieces are correctly fitted and secure to meet safety standards.
• Finishing surfaces e.g., by sanding, staining or varnishing.
• Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good condition and safe to use
