Summary

Based in the Environmental Regulation Section, you will be required to work within a professional team of officers involved in discharging the council’s statutory and non statutory duties and commitments in relation to the investigation of complaints about noise, vibration, smoke, odour and other statutory nuisances from industrial, commercial and domestic premises. You will be required to use a range of methods including officer visits and assessment of recordings on specialist instruments such as noise recording equipment, sound level meters and light meters to be able to evaluate the results and make decisions to take either informal remedial or formal enforcement action.
The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the Department’s 24 hour out of hour’s standby scheme on a rota basis (currently once every 8 weeks) for which additional payment is made.
You must have a B.Tech in Environmental Health or appropriate equivalent qualification (i.e. NVQ Level 3) or considerable practical experience of dealing with environmental statutory nuisance issues. As the role involves visiting premises throughout the city at any time of the day or night you will need to provide your own transport for which an additional allowance is payable.
