We have an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to utilise their Quality Improvement expertise in developing an education programme within the North East London (NEL) Adult Critical Care (ACC) Operational Delivery Network (ODN).

The NEL ACC ODN is coterminous with NEL ICS and is hosted by Barts Health. It encompasses seven critical care units across three acute trusts, totalling over 200 beds. The units are at St Bartholemew’s, the Royal London, Whipps Cross Hospital and Newham Hospital within the Barts Health Group; Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital within Barking, Havering and Redbridge Trust and Homerton Healthcare. The ODN operates as a system by design and facilitates a collective focus on patient pathways, efficiency, quality, and improvement making network connections to support this. It is jointly accountable to NEL ICB and NHSE for the delivery of the national ODN specification and the yearly network workplan.

The continued education of the critical care workforce is essential to the successful delivery of Adult Critical services across NEL. In this role, you will bring extensive post registration experience within critical care and education, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to develop a strategy and resources for education and training across multi-professional groups. You will participate in local, regional and national critical care education meetings and act as an ambassador for the network when doing so.

You will work closely with the Network team to develop and implement the annual network workplan and lead on specific workstreams. You will support unit leaders and their teams in delivering high quality critical care and a positive and supportive working environment for staff.

Streamlining pathways is an essential element of the ODN’s business and this can only be effectively achieved with a QI approach to change. You will be a QI expert for the Network and equip and support colleagues in the use of QI. It will be essential to link in with unit and trust QI leads to ensure change is embedded and part of an overall QI strategy.

As this is a new role, we are looking for someone who is innovative, resourceful and proactive, capable of of engaging directly with the critical care units to deliver training as appropriate, whilst also providing a strategic view.

Interviews will take place on the 5th of March 2025

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.

“Although this position is a 13 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 13 months.”

We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.
